Science Trials Dr. Stephen Hawking, and others, claimed God does not exist, and were invited to deposit court costs of $10,000 in escrow. Joseph Mastropaolo claimed God does exist, and deposited court costs of $10,000 in escrow. The trial was to be adjudicated by a certified neutral Superior Court Judge or Appeals Court Judge acceptable to both parties (for example, from http://www.jamsadr.com/).
